"You had heard about the legend of the mad wizard of Brovki ever since you were a boy. In the taverns of your small village, when it was late at night and only a few wine-soaked patrons remained, you had heard the most absurd and cruel stories about him.
Apparently he lived in an ancient ruined tower to the east, where the land meets the misty waters of a swamp. There he carried out his experiments in necromancy, giving birth to cruelly deformed creatures, said to be the result of monstrous unions wrought through magic. Some said he amassed considerable riches by selling the bizarre creatures resulting from his experiments to armies of rich warmongers....
After long wanderings as a mercenary, you came into possession of a map of the region showing the exact spot of the tower. "Tower of the mad sorcerer of Brovki" it says. You asked the antique dealer who sold you the map for information and he confirmed that it is indeed the sorcerer of legends. "It is a dangerous place, go there only if you are looking for trouble, warrior...."
Of course you can't wait to pocket the riches of the sorcerer, by now probably old and battered. You know the area well: it is the eastern steppe region where the weeds are waist-high and the shallow pools of water are invaded by insects. The best time is late summer, where the early cold kills mosquitoes and it is still early for the long snowfalls to cover the ground. The days grow shorter and the sun low on the horizon of the cloud-stained sky..."
